Mauritius Equity Watch | 26 Aug 2015 : Mauritius equities remain bearish, market cap US$22 million lower
Port Louis, Mauritius (Capital Markets in Africa) — Stock Exchange of Mauritius remained in the red district. The equity market capitalization ended at MUR 215.682 billion after sagging by MUR 760 million (US$22 million) relative to previous market capitalization of MUR 216.442 billion.
The Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) plunged by 0.26 percent or 5.03 points to close at 1,938.57 points and SEM10 index ended at 369.54 points after sagging by 0.22 percent or 0.83 points.
The overall total volume trade ended at 2.939 million (a drop relative to volume of 8.906 million recorded on previous trading session) and the total valued traded was recorded at MUR 16.860 million (a fall relative to MUR 97.779 million recorded at previous trading session).
The most active traded securities by volume were SMB Holdings recorded 2.539 million (about 86.4 percent of total volume) at MUR 2.158 million and Caudan Development Limited registered 70,700 million traded stocks amounted to MUR 91,910. CIEL Limited had 54,851 stocks at MUR 367,501 and Lux Island Resorts Limited recorded a total volume of 50,304 shares at MUR 3.169 million. New Mauritius Hotels also recorded 49,480 shares at MUR 915,388.
From the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, among the 30 traded securities there were 1 price gain and 12 price loses. Mauritius Development Investment Trust emerged as the lone gainer by adding 0.78 percent to end at MUR 5,14.
On the contrary, the loser was Air Mauritius Limited with a price reduction of 3.64 percent to trade at MUR 10.60. Gamma Civic sagged by 1.82 percent to conclude at MUR 27.00 and Omnicane Limited fell by 1.41 percent to end at MUR 70.00. Bluelife Limited settled at MUR 4.26 after sliding by MUR 0.40 or 0.93 percent and Mauritius Oil & Refineries Limited fell by 0.92 to settle at MUR 27.00.
The DEMEX index ended at 205.57 points after plummeting by 0.86 points or 0.42 percent. The market capitalization went down by MUR 205 million to close at MUR 48.857 (relative to MUR 49.062 billion recorded previous trading session). The total value traded was MUR 4.778 million exchanged in 73,281 traded securities. Swan Life Limited added 0.42 percent to end at MUR 960.00, EUDCOS closed at MUR 15.90 after gaining 1.27 percent and Bychemex Limited climbed by 0.73 to trade at MUR 8.26. On the contrary, Medical & Surgical Centre Limited (sagged by 9.43 percent at MUR 2.40), United Investment Limited (fell by 2.31 percent at MUR 12.70) and Medine Limited (crashed by 0.75 percent at MUR 66.00).
